Podcasting on iTunes U: Audio and Video of Lectures, Course Materials, and Special Events

Getting Started

Accessing Content

  1. Download iTunes (Windows/Mac) - Free
  2. Launch Mason on iTunes U
Logging in with your Mason ID and password will give you access to content only available to the Mason community.

Most of the courses are arranged by school or college. For instance, if you were looking for a COMM 101 class, you would scroll down to the SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, and CENTERS block, click on Humanities and Social Sciences and your course would then be listed.

Creating Content

Generally creating content is limited to Faculty and Staff, however it is possible for an instructor to setup a course to allow students to upload their own content.

1. Request Space on iTunes U

Faculty and staff can request space on iTunes U for their courses.

Once you have space on iTunes U, you have a few options to customize the course:

2. Record Your Podcast

The easiest way to do this is to purchase your own digital recorder, but Classroom Technologies does have digital recorders available for checkout.

3. Post Production

After recording, you'll most likely want to do some editing to your podcast file. The following programs are recommended:

Make sure when you output your final podcast file that it is one of the supported formats:

4. Upload Your Podcast

  1. Login to iTunes U with your Mason ID
  2. Navigate to your course in Mason on iTunes U (again, iTunes U is organized by college, so you may have to click on your school first).
  3. If your access is setup properly, you should see an "Upload and Manage Files" link on the right.
  4. Click that link. It should give you options to upload your podcast.
